hi the breed of the dogs which mr hargreaves had he said in court ”ah they are golden retreiver x neo mastif x red nose pitty, ahh that was the mother and for the father he was ”neo mastif x red nose pit bull x bull terrier” his words. also he greeted the professional hunter mr campbell…and was asked if he wanted to keep any… he reply nah man shot em all….he also told the shooter dont open the cage theyre to dangerous shoot em inthe cage….so mr hargreaves is oviously afew planks short of a bridge……..ill let you guess why some one would want 50 to 70 dogs…also id say there was other stuff going on that quarry ?????

There’s some serious weirdness surrounding this incident, apart from the dog collector and the shooters. What could be going on in the heads of the people who offered Mr Hargreaves more dogs after his were shot? or the council staff who decided not to enforce the registration fees (for thirty odd dogs). Then the SPCA left pups only a few days old with Mr Hargreaves…apparently he kept them in that workshop. Then there are the media who wittered on about the foxy owner’s “revenge.” it’s just as likely that they saw themselves as solving an ongoing local dog problem. Then the SPCA spokesman who said the dogs were “loved and cared for”. How would he know…the dogs were dead. I don’t make animals I love (or intend to eat) live in shitty conditions.

I’ve just had too clean out Mr. Hargreaves borrowed workshop in Wellsford and what a mess confronted me, shit everywhere bones and flies from floor to ceiling, it was a absolute disgrace and I have 30yrs commercial cleaning experience the worst job I’ve seen. Mr Hargreaves should not be allowed to keep animals.

Interesting comments.
I wonder if peoples opinions would sway much if they learned the dogs were a pitbull cross breed.
I wonder if you knew these dogs were the result of inbreeding ,would you stop and think.
Tony Campbell is a pest eradicator, and his shots were on target.
Once again the media has succeeded with the power they have over some of our small minds.
I must say it is good to see you dont leave Hargreaves blameless as so many are doing.
I would not want this man living down my road with his pack of inbred mongrels.

Peter, I’m actually glad you that you have addressed the fact that this dude owned so many dogs. It was the first thing that my wife and I discussed when the story came out. Why so many dogs? How can that be humane? As sick as the slaughter was, the dogs are probably happier now.

Glad to see that all blogs have trolls.

That said, I agree that killing 33 animals – whatever the species – is intolerable. However, while the killer should be punished, he is not the only one responsible.
